About me

Mariusz Orchel

Sound Designer & Sound Artist

I create audiovisual synergies in which field recordings and organic sound function as an autonomous narrative force.

I am a Vienna-based sound designer and sound engineer with over fifteen years of experience in audiovisual design. After graduating from the SAE Institute Vienna in 2010, I developed an artistic practice that covers the entire spectrum of sound production – from precise on-set recording to complex compositional post-production. My creative work resonates internationally; I have received awards and nominations for best sound design and music at international film festivals in the USA, Great Britain, and India, among others.

I have a particular interest in field recording and the creation of foley sounds. In my work, I capture the acoustic essence of spaces and objects, subsequently transforming them through innovative digital processes and algorithmic structures. This alienation of organic sounds allows me to shape new, multi-layered textures in which sound design and music merge into an inseparable unity. Guided by the philosophy “In every film, the sound whispers emotions before the images speak,” I realize an audiovisual synergy that places sound at the center as an emotional and atmospheric guide.

In addition, I regularly contribute my expertise to productions for renowned broadcasters such as ORF and ARTE in the field of reports and documentaries. I am also a member of the ÖJC (Austrian Journalists Club).
